Welcome to Satzvey Castle, one of the most beautiful and best maintained moated castles of Nordrhine-Westfalia. The first written documents date this castle to 1396 with its foundations supposedly older still. Satzvey Castle has been owned by the family of Count Beissel von Gymnich for over 300 years and this noble family still resides here. Well known far beyond the region's boundaries, Satzvey Castle is most famous for its historic presentations and is often featured in the media as a model for excellent monument preservation. This is assured by the events which take place here throughout the year.   The family crest of Count and Countess Beissel von Gymnich The tourist season begins with the Easter market and is followed by a witches market and a Beltane Night (the last night in April). The Renaissance Festival during Pentecost and the following weekend brings back to life the 16th century with Knights jousting in tournaments at the edge of a large renaissance market. The first two weekends in September are devoted to the Middle Ages (around 1200) with more Knights, Tournaments and a large medieval market. After a ghoulish Halloween, the season comes to an end on the four weekends of Advent. Then the park surrounding the castle is transformed into a setting for an enchanting medieval Nativity Play held in Latin and medieval German. A large, bustling Christmas market overflows the courtyards and inner halls of the castle. Events. Private parties, weddings and incentives are held all year long.
